I've been trying to figure this out for myself forever and haven't really been able to figure out the best way to balance online releases with safety and fairness but i think Marcus Jordan and the team at Trophy Room have figured it out. To start out I want to make my personal beliefs in regards to sneaker release known, I think waiting in line ups, camping overnight is my personal favorite way to release a sneaker to the public. I hate that sneaker culture has turned so dangerous that even before COVID-19 retailers were moving away from in store line up releases due to the safety concerns of their customer because people were getting murdered right out front of stores for sneakers. Lining up was the best way for the most passionate people to get the sneakers instead of raffles or hyper strike releases that just get bot'd but we can't do that anymore and retailers are trying to figure out the best way to release sneakers and one of my personal favorite ways is how Trophy Room is releasing their Jordan 1 collaboration this week.
On their Instagram yesterday evening Trophy Room released their details on how people can attempt to cop a pair of their highly anticipated collaboration with Jordan Brand and its different from what you typically see but it isn't so far off from what a typical online release does. First thing is that its a raffle, yes i understand that there have been a ton of sneaker raffles over the course of the last year but the thing that separates this raffle from the others is that there is a time frame. So instead of just having a raffle form open for days before the release it will only be open for an hour and a half the day of the drop. What this means is that:
1) Raffles are less likely to be overrun by bots like a hyper strike release would be.
2) The specific time frame of raffle means that less casual sneaker heads will over look or forget about signing up for the raffle as opposed to raffles that are open for sign up for days at a time. (This one kind of makes me sound like I'm very full of my self, that's fine)
3) The time frame makes it more difficult for people to organize huge groups of friends and family to sign up for the raffle but does not make it impossible so people with strong circles and the effort to organize their circles are more likely to end up with the sneakers which means the people that will appreciate the sneakers the most have the best chance at copping this shoe.
Obviously there is still issues with bots and other things in regards to the release but as far as online releases go I think this may be the best way to do it because we can't be waiting in lines anymore. I just wish we could go back in time to when waiting in lines were the only way but we can't so this is going to have to do. Also I can't promise this will be the last time I post about this shoe but maybe after the release I'll dial back the Trophy Room love just a little bit, this is my grail (so I'll probably post about this every month for the rest of my life or at least until I get a pair) and its crazy to think that it hasn't even released yet and its overtaken the "Shattered Backboard" Jordan 1's in my eyes, I feat i thought to be impossible. If anyone is able to get their hands on a pair please hit me up, i will owe you my life.
